Brownies





This is the recipe my mom always used for brownies. I have never seen it improved upon.

INGREDIENTS

3/4 cup flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 tbsp water
1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 325F. Grease an 8-inch square cake pan.

Sift together flour, cocoa, salt, and sugar. Then stir in shortening, eggs, water, and vanilla and beat until smooth. Add 1/2 cup chopped nuts if desired. Spread in pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan.
